Do travelling bloggers really matter?

By Mary Njeri

In this current era of showcasing almost every aspect of one’s life on social media, there is  a high number of people who specialize in various aspects of life and show the audiences important details about the said area. One such aspect is travelling where people spend a significant time travelling different places in the world and filming while at it. To some, it is usually for fun but to others like Just Rioba and Natalie Tewa, they do it as a source of income. This is where travelling companies or the tourism ministry in different countries work with the bloggers for them to showcase the various tourist attractions since in most cases the bloggers have a huge following on social media and are thus influential. So does this mean that traveling bloggers influencing people’s travelling choices and is in turn a growing field in the social media scene?

I conducted a survey with the aim of identifying whether travelling bloggers influence people’s travelling choices and the results were positive. 53% of the people who participated in the survey are influenced, 15% are not while 33% do not know travelling bloggers. Thus from my findings, travel bloggers are influential and play a huge role in determing where people want to travel to.

THE AIRBNB WAVE

By Mary Njeri

Due to the increased travelling needs and in turn a lot of accommodation necessities, Airbnbs come in handy. These are personal homes located near tourist attraction sites that owners rent out to tourists at a fee. The main idea behind this accommodation concept is to give travelers a home feeling when they are away from home. The price of the Airbnbs differs depending on location, amenities in the house and the type of house. They are currently very popular as more people seem to prefer them to hotels. Some of the reasons that tourists use Airbnbs and probably a major reason why they are prevalent in all parts of the world are that: First, they are a cheaper option compared to hotels. Some go for as low as ten dollars per night. Besides, unlike hotels with a capacity of one person per room, when one is in an Airbnb, there is an opportunity to host as many people as possible in the house. Furthermore, Airbnbs are more private since in most cases they are located in residential areas with no sharing amenities. Therefore, the next time you decide to travel, consider the efficiency of Airbnbs rather than the luxury of hotel rooms. Below is a picture of an Airbnb in Mombasa that charges 16 dollars per night.

Unanswered question

Always wanted to get a tattoo? They seem cooler and trendier and most of your friends have them even if it’s a tiny semicolon on their wrist. It always get you thinking everytime you see someone with a tattoo. Is tattooing safe for my skin.

Tattos are a common form of self-expression, but they also damage the skin and can cause complications. Complications could include: allergic reaction to tattoo dyes, which may develop years later; signs of an allergic reaction include a rash at the tattoo site. … burning or swelling at the tattoo site. And the list continues.

These effects vary differently among people. The safest and surest way of talking great care of your skin is to definitely not to get tattooed. But if the temptation is rather high and you really have to partake of that meal, ensure you treat the fresh tattoo wound with caution. Clean the wound, keep it moistured and aware from any sort of dirt

Skin care products

Wairimu Kimotho

The market if flooding with skin care products from different companies. In a list of the 4 most common skin care products, a survey was conduct to determine which of the four was the most common . Nivea and Vaseline have a wide rage of types of skin care for men, women and different skin types. This is why the product both took 48% each leave the rest of the 5% going to valon and a shocking 0% to Nice an Lovely product.

Reasons stated for the high use of Vaseline and Nivea. A high percentage said that this product moisturize their skin and makes smooth, it is skin friendly and lastly because is famous brand that is know all over.

A percentage of almost 70% said that they found out about the product from television commercial which is true as nivea and Vaseline are frequency advertised.. A good marketing strategy.

A high percentage of 89% spend less that Ksh.500 with only about 1% spending more than Ksh1000. This is good news on the side of the skin care products companies as most of their products range below Ksh500

Discrimination

Wairimu Kimotho

Kimotho: Hi guys welcome to my podcast. Have you ever been walking around and you see a dude so pimpled up or with lots of pimples that it scared you? If it’s a friend and you get the courage to ask , why their skin is so dry, and with lots of pimples, and they said that skin care is something only ladies do. So today I’ll be joined by Paul, who is going to be talking more about a skin care routine that he uses. Welcome. Hi Paul.

Paul: Hi

Kimotho: so there’s a myth going around that only ladies take care of their skin. What do you think about that?

Paul:I don’t think the myth is true. We men don’t want to be walking around with pimples therefore staying that only ladies take care of their skin is not true. As a girl you wouldn’t want to be seen walking with a guy full of pimples.Same way me as a guy want to be seen with a beautiful girl

Kimotho: Thank you. So how do you take care of your skin?

Paul: First you need to know your skin type. Is it the oily type of the dry type that constantly needs moisturising

Kimotho: What type of skin is yours?

Paul: For me I have the dry type of skin.

Kimotho: Any routine you use to maintain clear skin and get rid of pimples?

Paul: Yes I do. First limit bath time. Especially when showering with hot water as it peels the skin. Avoid strong soaps, shave carefully using cream and good shavers. Also moisturise dry skin.

Kimotho: Any product you can recommend those listening to this ?

Paul: Yes. I’d recommend Arimis. There’s a reason why it’s used on cows. It makes the uder soft and when one uses it on their skin, it is gentle and it softens the skin.

Kimotho: That was Paul guys. Take care of your skin, it is as necessary .As much as girls take care of their skin so should you. Bye.

The fitness trainer’s journey

Kamanthe Mumo

Kamanthe: Hello people of the internet, welcome to my podcast my name is Kamanthe Mumo. So today I’ll be joined by a gym instructor who will tell is all about his life ,all about what he does and how he just simply enjoys what he does. Hi Eustine?

Eustine: Hi

Kamanthe: Why did you decide to be a gym instructor?

Eustine: This is something I’ve always wanted to do. I’ve always enjoyed being in the gym since I was young. My dad was a gym instructor, my brother is a gym instructor and we also have a gym back at home.

Kamanthe: Seems your family is really fit. Anyway would you consider gyming stressful at some point?

Eustine: It’s hard work. Everything is hard work. Early mornings at 5, getting home from work very late. People sometimes people take advantage of your position. It gets stressful but it’s all a matter of self control and dedication to your work.

Kamanthe: Do you consider your job thrilling?

Eustine: it’s very interesting. I get meet new people everyday. It’s a mixture of interaction and learning through talking to people. Totally thrilling.

Kamanthe; You heard it from the gym instructor himself. That was it. Goodbyes.

Gym enrollment

Kamanthe Mumo.

Working out is very essential for anyone who is determined to get and stay fit. Enrolling in a gym makes it even easier. It helps one stay focused and determined to achieve their set goal .It is where all the professionals are. Professionals that will train you as they monitor your day to day exercise routines. It also creates a good environment for workouts with all the required and necessary work out equipment.

The above survey said otherwise about gym enrollment. With slightly above 60% people working out, only around 30% of them are enrolled in a gym. Meaning the rest of the 70% workout at home with no particular schedule This is hard to keep up considering that one might be distracted by something as simple as a TV show or movie.

The last question sort to answer why not many people are enrolled in any gym. 70% of the entire population are willing to join a gym only if it charges less than Ksh1500, 25% are willing to pay between Ksh1500-5000 with only 5% willing to pay above Ksh5000. With most gyms charging from Ksh 3500, this explains why people rarely fail to enrol in gyms as they feel it’s too expensive.
